Granite Ware Asparagus Steamer

For Perfectly Steamed Asparagus:

  • Put 5 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of salt in the base pot.  Cover, and bring to a boil.
  • Place stalks of asparagus upright in the steamer insert.  Trim bases if stalks are longer than 9 inches (22 cm.) so they fit just below the rim of the steamer insert.
  • Carefully lower the insert into the boiling water and put the cover on the assembled steamer.  Steam for about 7 minutes for a pound of asparagus, or until tops are just tender.
  • Immediately remove steamer insert from boiling water and trim off bottom inchor so of the stalks.
  • Serve plain, with a hollandaise sauce, vinaigrette dressing or with melted butter.0
